Schindler Elevators chosen for ZMAX Fairway Colombo Hotel Project

The Fairway Holdings Group a home-grown corporate, operates in a plethora industries ranging from real estate, manufacturing, trading Operations, purchase services, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, domestic aviation, and most recently, the leisure Industry.

The first hotel to be developed by the Fairway Holdings Group is centrally located on Hospital Street, opposite the World Trade Centre and behind the Old Dutch Hospital premises. It will comprise of 181 rooms and a management contract has been signed with the Plateno Hotels Group of China. Plateno, the second largest hotel group in the world, has recognised Sri Lanka as one of the fastest growing markets and has established their regional office for South East Asia in Colombo.

Trade Promoters Limited (TPL), Sri Lanka’s authorized sole distributor for Schindler elevators and escalators, are currently installing 5 Schindler 3300AP elevators within the premises, one of the many mobility solutions under Schindler’s low-rise category. Ingeniously designed and flexible to install, the elevator was chosen to be fitted with a machine room-less design that saves space to cater for more architectural flexibility. The advanced Traction Media and small sized controller saves further space requiring only a small shaft size to install the elevator, which in turn allows for more design freedom. The controller is located outside the elevator shaft, thereby making monthly maintenance easy to carry out.

The Schindler 3300AP model adopts a gearless motor that is 40% more energy efficient as compared to a conventional geared motor. It also has an optimised stand-by mode where lights and ventilation are switched off and the drive, controller and door drive power consumption is reduced when not in use. The 3300AP models trademark low energy consumption compliments the many energy efficient features consciously incorporated to the design of this ultra modern hotel by Fairway Holdings.

The Schindler 3300 AP’s success story in the Sri Lankan vertical transportation market is attributed to the fact that it is not just a mere moving platform that transports passengers vertically but is built with precision Swiss engineering and conforms to International safety standards (such as the European Lift Standards, EN81) with automatic evacuation to the nearest floor in case of power failure – a standard safety feature with Schindler and one that is particularly useful in Sri Lanka given regular power fluctuations. The elevator is also equipped with infra-red door sensors (light curtains) that automatically reopen the doors if an object or person is detected while the doors are closing. The doors also have a standard 2-hour fire rating.

Founded in Switzerland in 1874, the Schindler Group is a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services. Schindler mobility solutions move one billion people every day all over the world. Behind the company’s success are over 56,000 employees in more than 100 countries. Schindler products can be found in many well-known buildings throughout the globe, including office buildings, airports, shopping centres/retail establishments and specialty buildings.
